Join Us

All UW-Madison students are welcome to join the team, regardless of major or experience. Our projects cover everything from technical projects, like electrical and aerodynamic design to business presentations and trailer designs-there is a role for everyone!

Find Your Team

We are organized into several subteams — each focused on a different part of our mission.

Take a look below and fill out the ones that interest you most.

Aerodynamics

Designs and manufactures wings, aerodynamic elements, and bodywork to generate downforce and manage airflow around the vehicle. Using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulations and wind tunnel testing, this subteam maximizes mechanical grip while minimizing drag to extract every bit of performance from the car.

Business

Handles sponsorship acquisition, budget management, subteam branding, social media, and preparation for the business presentation & cost events. This operations & brand focused subteam supports the team principle and most non-engineering responsibilities. They ensure that other subteams can perform their best and not be gated by anything.

Chassis:

Develops the suspension geometry, members, mounting and more; almost anything that interfaces with our chassis. This subteam focuses on optimizing system stiffness alongside the Structures and Vehicle Dynamics subteams.

Controls

Works in close partnership with Vehicle Dynamics, Powertrain, and Electrical to optimize the vehicle’s behavior and driver interfaces. This subteam literally “controls” how the car accelerates, corners, and corrects itself to support the driver. Their work is integral to creating a drivable car that wins trophies.

Driving

While an informal subteam, these members pilot our cars in competition. All drivers are students with racing experience, a passion for winning, or both, and are committed to pushing the vehicle to its limits to set fast lap times and secure victories.

Electrical

Split into high and low voltage teams, this subteam ensures power reaches the motors safely and efficiently. They design the battery systems and all associated safety controls required for competition while supporting vehicle performance. Close collaboration with Powertrain and Controls enables accurate data collection to drive iteration and optimization.

Firmware

Partners with the Electrical subteam to validate and enhance electronic systems. Specializing in embedded systems, these members handle sensor integration, electronic communications protocols, and extensive data acquisition to enable real-time vehicle monitoring and control.

Powertrain

Responsible for the motors, gearboxes, and significant portions of the high-voltage battery system, this subteam puts power to the ground while maintaining energy efficiency alongside performance. Managing losses and ensuring system cohesion across dynamic assemblies are core competencies of this group.

Structures

Focuses on the fully carbon fiber composite monocoque and the structural analysis that makes it possible. With mass and stiffness optimization central to chassis development, this subteam collaborates with every other group to ensure the vehicle functions as one cohesive unit. Members perform detailed FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to validate designs under extreme conditions.

Tech Talk

We’re big believers in learning by doing, but we also love to share knowledge through our “Tech-Talks.” These are quick 10-20 minute presentations where students teach students—covering everything from vehicle design and team management to all the interesting stuff in between. We’re genuinely proud of our team members’ journeys and the skills they’ve picked up along the way. By blending what we’ve learned in class, industry, and life, we create talks that focus on what actually matters and why it’s relevant—making sure everyone walks away with something they can really use.

Vehicle Dynamics ()

Performs high-level analysis to make the car more drivable, higher performing, and ultimately faster. Gathering input from every subteam, VD members synthesize data to provide intuitive understanding of how system changes and design decisions impact overall vehicle performance.
